Fun and Safe

Buckets and spades, 'rubber' rings, building blocks, dolls, balls and cars – all are possible with plasticized PVC. The fact that it’s non-toxic, supple, has good mechanical properties and can be manipulated into many different shapes and colors makes it an ideal choice.

The use of phthalates in soft PVC toys for children under 36 months, who often place such toys in their mouths, provoked a controversial debate. This ended in Europe with a ban on these specific items, due to the absence of an agreed test method to evaluate the migration of phthalates.

PVC toys are manufactured by slush or rotational molding (emulsion-type resins) or by injection (suspension-type resins).

PVC Goes the Distance

Rigid, suspension-type PVC is used to manufacture luggage frames, while plasticized suspension-type PVC is used for handles. PVC is particularly cherished for its heavy stress and stain resistance. Plasticized PVC (emulsion-type) can also be used to produce rigid imitation leather, which is well suited for the manufacture of luggage casings due to its excellent surface finish and resistance to stains. The wide array of designs that can be created is an additional bonus.

Luggage frames are produced by extrusion, while over-molding by injection is used for handles. Emulsion-type PVC resins are used to manufacture imitation leather by coating cotton or synthetic fabrics.
