Policy for Health, Safety and Environment and for Quality

We, in Solvay Specialty Polymers (SpP), firmly believe that being excellent in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, is crucial for generating a growing, successful and sustainable business. Therefore the most important objective of Solvay SpP is having differentiated products, solutions, services, people and processes to meet or exceed the expectations of its customers, shareholders, employees and of the communities living close to its facilities. This challenge is taken on through the continuous improvement of its activities and of the products and services provided, in terms of both Quality and performance with respect to Health, Safety and the Environment, in accordance with the regulations and laws in effect and with the principles of sustainable development.

We take the commitment to lead Solvay SpP in the achievement of said objectives, by:

• directing the organization and its activities towards the application of the principles of Total Quality Management and of the Solvay Group’s Responsible Care Policy;
• adopting efficient Management Systems for Quality, Health, Safety and Environment based on procedures that are well-defined and understood at all levels of the organization, and to continuously improve such systems, taking into consideration technical progress, scientific knowledge, the demands of the consumer and the expectations of the stakeholders;
• developing the professional abilities of employees at all levels and ranks, by means of programs for education and training in the methodology and regulations that control Quality, Health, Safety and Environment;
• putting into effect methods of prevention to guarantee that no activity of Solvay SpP can jeopardize the health and the safety of its employees and the community outside;
• putting in place measures for the prevention of the pollution of the soil, the subsoil and the underground waters;
• reducing whenever possible emissions, waste generation and the consumption of energy, raw materials and natural resources;
• promoting communications with the authorities and the local communities, in order to spread the commitment of Solvay SpP for the improvement of performance relative to Health, Safety and Environment;
• developing the internal technical competencies regarding Health and Safety of the employees and Environmental protection;
• minimizing the risk of accidents;
• producing, marketing, and continuously innovating products that, in the phases of storage, distribution and use, are fit for their intended use while permitting sustainable operations from a Health, Safety and Environment standpoint; and
• promoting the spread of behaviors, practices and procedures that are consistent with this policy in Solvay SpP’s relations with companies that it does business with.
