Solef® 80 000 Series Expanded PVDF is ideally suited for aircraft applications such as ducting, where complex pipe manifolds can be replaced by single shot molded foam parts. Thanks to the inherent advantages of a high performance fire-retardant, lightweight insulating foam, a complete air system can be replaced, easily connected together and simply maintained.
The molding technology allows for extremely complex systems to be molded in one shot using aluminum tooling for cost effective manufacture.
Solef® 80 000 series expanded PVDF passes the stringent demands of the aircraft industry for resistance to flame, heat release and radiant panel tests, meeting the specifications of both FAR and AITM regulations.

Fluorolink® PFPE is the ideal treatment for seating or other interior components where enhanced stain repellency and easy care are desired. Stains can be avoided by simply blotting the surface with an absorbent cloth or paper towel. Because of the water repellency properties of Fluorolink® PFPE as well as its excellent stain repellency, mild washing conditions ensure soil removal.
Fluorolink® PFPEs are water based dispersion systems, PFOA-free that will not degrade to PFOA. Fluorolink® PFPE can be easily formulated with several finishing auxiliaries such as crosslinking agents, extenders and suitable hydrogenated resins.

Solef® 80 000 Series Expanded PVDF is ideally suited for aircraft applications such as seating or other applications where gently yielding surfaces or structures are required.
Thanks to the inherent advantages of a high performance fire-retardant, lightweight and resilient foam, complex non load bearing structures can be manufactured.
Solef® 80 000 Series Expanded PVDF passes the stringent demands of the aircraft industry for resistance to flame, heat release and radiant panel tests, meeting the specifications of both FAR and AITM regulations.

Featherweight Airline Trolley Reduces Carbon Footprint
AeroCat – a Netherlands-based specialty manufacturer, delivers the airline industry’s first recyclable catering trolley with a virtually all-plastic design.
Radel® PPSU Replaces Aluminum to Create a Lighter, Lower Cost, Greener Solution
The goal was to engineer a state-of-the-art design that could: Reduce weight; Lower operational cost; Enhance the trolley's green characteristics.
The key to achieving these goals was to switch from traditional aluminum to a modern, recyclable, lightweight material that could meet stringent aircraft requirements.
The solution? Radel® polyphenylsulfone (PPSU)
Radel® PPSU offers significant weight advantages and has the flow characteristics required to meet the unique manufacturing requirements. Plus Radel PPSU is one of the few plastics that meets all FAA flame, smoke and toxicity requirements while also resisting aggressive cleaning agents.
The Tigris trolley debuted at the 2009 Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, featuring a 25% reduction in weight versus typical aluminum units. The full size Tigris weighs in at only 17kg (37 lbs), a weight savings of almost 4.5kg (10lbs). A smaller model is available that weighs only 10KG (22 lbs).
Materials
Radel® PPSU Significant SavingsTo put the weight reduction in perspective, consider this: According to airline manufacturing industry figures, reducing the weight of a single airliner component by one pound can save as much as $1,000 per year. Add to that the fact that the Tigris can be fully recycled after its 10-year lifecycle, and the true level of improvement becomes clear.
According to researchers at the Netherland Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), the new trolley’s carbon footprint is improved by a factor of 2.2 over that of a traditional aluminum unit. The benefits of using Solvay Radel PPSU to manufacture a new generation of trolleys go far beyond fuel savings:
- Each pound of weight reduction can save up to $1,000 in fuel costs and significantly reduce the carbon footprint.
- Fully, closed-loop recyclable after 10 years of service. Old trolleys last 7 years and are not recyclable.
- Additional insulating capabilities mean airlines can use less dry ice to keep food and beverages cold. Independent research shows replacing just 10 percent of traditional trolleys with the Tigris model could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 310,000 tons, the amount used to light 1.7 million homes.
- Reduced maintenance requirements save time, effort and, thereby, money.
- Significantly enhanced appearance will be appreciated by crew and passengers as a clean, efficient, modern design.
- Radel® PPSU meets all FAA flame, smoke and toxicity requirements and resists aggressive cleaning agents.
- The Tigris trolley includes four passive RFID tags for enhanced catering logistics.
- New trolleys offer a 100% return on investment within the first year, based on combined benefits.
The Tigris recyclable trolley is currently undergoing industry trials and will be sold or leased to airlines as one element of a total service catering concept by AeroCat.
