Solvera® PFPE imparts outstanding properties to the substrate such as oil, fat, and grease repellency (reducing the surface energy) together with a good printability.
Solvera® PFPE is used in demanding applications such as pet food bags, quick food service wraps, pizza boxes, molded paper plates and microwave popcorn bags.
Solvera® PFPE may be applied during the papermaking process by internal treatment or surface treatment methods. It may be used in conjunction with starches, carboxymethylcellulose or polyvinyl alcohol for surface treatment processes or in conjunction with cationic retention aids for internal treatment processes.
Solvera® PFPE meets FDA regulations 21 CFR 176.180 and 21 CFR 176.170 conditions B-G for paper and paperboard in direct contact with aqueous and fatty foods. Some Solvera® PFPE grades have special approval for microwave popcorn packaging, oven/baking applications FDA Condition of Use J) and approval under German BfR regulations, according to Recommendation XXXVI, for use in direct food contact paper or board.
All Solvera® PFPE grades are free of perfluoro-octane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluoro octanoic acid (PFOA), identified as persistent, toxic bioaccumulatives in animal and human tissue.
