Solvera® PFPE may be used with cationic retention aids and introduced into the fiber matrix in the wet end of the paper machine.

Surface Treatment

Solvera® PFPE may be used in conjunction with starches, carboxymethylcellulose or polyvinyl alcohol and applied with a size press, coater or calender stack water box.

The sustainable alternative for grease resistance packaging applications

Solvera® PFPE improves the grease repellency of paper and paperboard. Both solvent and aqueous formulations are available and can be diluted to any concentration with water. It complies with FDA regulations 21 CFR 176.180 and 21 CFR 176.170 and does not contain perfluoro-octanyl acided (PFOA) and perfluoro-octanyl sulfonate (PFOS) nor is it based on telomer chemistry.

Smart pizza packaging

Pizza boxes enhanced with Solvera® PFPE ensure a more attractive product, free of greasy stains. These boxes are recyclable, compostable, biodegradable and contain no PFOAs and will not degrade into PFOA.

Grease Resistant C1S for Multiwall Paper Pet Food Packaging

Paper treated with Solvera PFPE can be used to eliminate staining and maintain high quality print graphics on the exterior of small, medium and large multiwall paper sacks. Grease resistant C1S is used for pet food packaging and other oil containing foods like corn meal or batter. This grade can also be applied in charcoal packaging applications.

QSR Fast Food Packaging

Solvera PFPE is the sustainable product of choice for QSR grease resistant packaging applications from light weight wraps to clamshells to SBS board. Solvera treated packaging improves packaging aesthetics and eliminates grease bleed through which can leave stains or negatively impact the fast food customer experience.

Microwave Popcorn Packaging

Some Solvera PFPE products are approved for use in both inner and outer ply microwave packaging applications. These molecules meet or exceed all US FDA standards for safe use in both of these applications. Solvera has been commercially proven and applied in both the inner and outer plies of microwave popcorn packaging.

Molded Paper Plates

Solvera PFPEs can be applied to impart grease resistance to molded paper plates and other molded paper applications.

Solvera® PFPE treated popcorn bag awarded industry prize!

A Solvay customer, Exopack, LLC, was awarded the 2010 Gold Award for Environmental & Sustainability Achievement by the Flexible Packaging Association for Exopack's production of a novel microwave popcorn bag. The winning entry relies on Solvera® imparted grease resistance during storage and use. The bag's paper is manufactured by Wausau Paper. Exopack, LLC prints and converts the paper into bags which are filled and distributed by American Pop Corn.
