Solvay Solexis Launches Tecnoflon®
The Solvay Eco Friendly new fluoroelastomer copolymer

Solvay Solexis announces the launch of a new generation of Fluoroelastomers, the Solvay Eco Friendly family (SEF).

In addition to its already wide portfolio of fluoroelastomer grades, the Tecnoflon R&D Team has developed Tecnoflon SEF, an innovative class of fluoroelastomer copolymer grades with reduced environmental impact, in order to empower its competitiveness throughout the world in all the major market segments.

“Sustainable Growth” is the key world in all new Tecnoflon developments: this is the reason why this new family of fluoroelastomers has been designed with a particular attention to the Environment. By using SEF, it’s possible to achieve significant saving in Electrical Energy and Environmental Emissions due to low or no post curing treatment required.

“When we started thinking about this new family of Fluoroelastomers – said Francescantonio Azzariti, Senior Vice President, Head of Solvay Solexis’ Elastomers business – the aim was to deliver advantages to the main players involved in the supply chain and I think we succeeded in doing it: longer service life, higher temperature resistance and lower compounding costs are only some of the main features offered by the Tecnoflon SEF grades.
The Automotive crisis is forcing companies to identify innovative and cheaper solutions without sacrificing the outstanding performances required by the fluoroelastomer articles – continued Mr. Azzariti – and the SEF family can contribute significantly.”

Tecnoflon SEF 9050HS is the first grade of such innovative fluoroelastomer copolymers having unique characteristics of low environmental impact and exceptional sealing performance. Samples of this first grade are available upon request from our Sales-TS&D team.

The combination of the Tecnoflon HS polymer technology and proprietary crosslinking system leads to optimal properties after press cure. In this phase, byproducts emission is greatly reduced compared to standard bisphenol curable FKM.
When properly compounded and processed, post cure in an oven is not needed to satisfy most fluoroelastomer specifications. This unique feature provides great advantages in terms of production time reduction and energy savings.

Tecnoflon SEF 9050HS can be used for both injection and compression molding to produce o-rings and gaskets with exceptional sealing behavior, largely exceeding the limits of standard fluoroelastomer copolymers.
