Shanghai, China, April 17, 2012 – A combination of products for more efficient batteries from Solvay Specialty Polymers and auto light-weighting solutions from Rhodia Engineering Plastics helps China OEMs speed-up the development and industrialization of Pure Electrical Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs), a responsible way for China to reduce the environmental impact from combustion automobiles.
“SOLEF® PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) from Solvay Specialty Polymers is the material of choice for binders and separators in Li-Ion batteries, the core of EVs, and helps store more electrical power with the same volume and weight and also significantly increases the battery life-cycle,” says Ziad Haddad, Commercial Director Greater China & SEA for Solvay Specialty Polymers. “Our future PVDF manufacturing facility in Changshu strategically positions us to better serve and meet China OEM’s growing demand for both domestic and export markets”.
Rhodia Engineering Plastics’ well-established series of Technyl® metal-replacing and auto light-weighting polyamide materials are ideal eco-mobility solutions. “Utilizing Rhodia’s highly-reinforced materials such as Technyl® SI and TechnylStar® AFX in semi-structural parts enables both lightweight and function integration,” comments Albert Huang, Asia Marketing Director, Rhodia Engineering Plastics. “The development of our new game-changing Evolite™ thermoplastic composite for bigger structural applications such as bumper beams, chassis or body-in white will drastically reduce overall vehicle weight and offer EVs and PHEVs even greater driving range,” Huang added.
The Energy Saving and New Energy Vehicle Development Plan seeks to reduce automotive pollution in China and EVs-PHEVs manufacturing on an industrial scale will play a leading role. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) claims the country is aiming to have 500,000 new-energy vehicles on Chinese roads by 2015. Through investments of more than 100 billion RMB, China intends to become the largest and most influential EV-PHEV manufacturing market in the world by 2020.
Solvay Specialty Polymers and Rhodia Engineering Plastics are exhibiting together at Chinaplas (April 18-21) for the first time. Come and visit us in Hall N1, Booth D41.
